Well, you’re at one of the right places. Personal finance blogs are popping up all over the internet and are a great way to get in touch with the finance you may need to succeed in life. It is a lot to swallow to just start wandering through pages and pages of stocks, bonds, and mutual funds advice when you barely have a savings account. How about starting at the start?

I StumbledUpon an interesting find today at the University of California-Irvine. It appears they have a handful of useful online courses you can take for free. The one that caught my eye was “Fundamentals of Personal Finance Planning“. The summary of the course says:

“This course is not intended to replace the professional financial planner, but to help to make the general public better consumers of financial planning advice. The course was created to help those who cannot afford extensive planning assistance better understand how to define and reach their financial goals. It provides basic understanding so informed decisions can be made. The course can also be seen as a reference for individual topics that are part of personal financial planning.

Financial planning, in the broadest sense, is an effort to manage all aspects of a person / family’s financial affairs. Classically, that begins with planning family spending and extends through risk management (insurance), taxes, wealth accumulation, investing, and wealth distribution (retirement and estate planning).”

I’d say that about sums up the point of personal finance as far as I, and my blog, are concerned. It teaches you how to start finding your goals, create a net worth statement, and taxation. It even hits on creating cash flow, insurance, and retirement needs. It charts out a pretty good path, and I actually enjoyed browsing it.

I dove head into personal finance blogs about a year ago, and never had this option, but if you learn better by following a path or reading in sequence, this might fit you well and I would recommend checking it out. Anyone else know of any online personal finance courses out there?
